Online Workshop 5/12: Watercolor for Beginners

This online workshop takes place on Wednesday, May, 12th from 5 PM -7 PM PST via Zoom Meeting. You will receive login instructions via email prior to the workshop.

Watercolor is a wonderful art form that is portable and easy!

In this workshop, we will learn all the basics of painting with watercolor including different blending and layering techniques and how to compose an image. We will go over the ins and outs of choosing brushes, the styles of watercolor paint (pan vs liquid watercolors), and discuss types of watercolor paper while doing several warm-up exercises to get comfortable with the materials. Once everyone is ready, we will practice painting a composed image! By the end of class, everyone will create a finished watercolor painting and have the confidence to create more!

About the instructor:

Sophie Tivona grew up wandering in gardens around the Bay Area and dreaming of flowers, rocks, soil, and water. She was raised by her single mother, who has been a professional gardener for her whole life. Sophie has always loved to create paper products and would find quiet spaces in the yard to make little treasures. She has followed a meandering path to find her way to a career in illustration, and she is overjoyed to share her love of nature through painting. Watercolor is Sophie's muse, and she loves its unpredictable, unforgiving qualities; it is her daily joy to harness the wildness of the medium and reveal its delicacy and strength.
