Online Workshop 5/25: Beginner's Embroidery - Learn To Draw With Thread

This online workshop takes place on Tuesday, May 25th at 5 PM - 7 PM from via Zoom Meeting. You will receive login directions prior to the workshop.

Have you ever wanted to create fiber art or to customize your clothing and linens? In Beginning Embroidery, you will learn classic and experimental hand sewing techniques to create drawings in thread. We will learn how to successfully sew several different embroidery stitches that will create unique surfaces, lines, and textures.

The class will begin with introductions and check-in about everyone's skill level. We will start at the very beginning with how to select appropriate fabric for embroidery, how to thread a needle, how to split threads, and how to stretch your fabric on a hoop.

We will learn 6 embroidery stitches including:

  • running stitch
  • backstitch
  • whipped backstitch
  • Chain stitch
  • satin stitch
  • french knot

Choose from two booking options:

1. Supply your own materials!For this class, you will need a few different colors of embroidery floss, an embroidery needle, a piece of fabric, and a hoop.

2. Purchase an embroidery kit from us that includes:
    • 5 skeins of embroidery floss
    • 2 needles
    • 1 piece of cotton fabric
    • 1 5" hoop

    About the instructor:

    Melissa Galbraith is the fiber artist behind MCreativeJ. She was born and raised in the desert of Washington state, where her mother instilled a love of making things by hand at an early age. Melissa enjoys making physical works of art, playing with colors, and creating texture. She draws inspiration from the desert and plants to create whimsical and modern fiber art. Melissa loves sharing her skills with others through Pattern Club and both online and in-person workshops.

    • East Coast: If ordering a kit 5-6 days prior to the class, you need to selectPriority Shipping to ensure your package arrives in time. Cutoff for delivery is 5 days prior to the event.  
    • West Coast: If ordering a kit 3 days prior to the class, you need to select Priority Shipping at checkout to ensure your package arrives in time. Curbside Pickup only 2 or fewer days to class.
