Online Workshop 6/29: A Beginner's Guide to Exploring Color Theory with Watercolors

This online workshop takes place on Wednesday, June 29th, from 5 PM -7 PM PT via Zoom Meeting. You will receive login instructions via email before the workshop.

Watercolor is a wonderful art form that is portable and easy! Pair its pigments with color theory fundamentals, and you have a dynamic piece of art that’s a feast for the eyes.

In this workshop, we will jump into color theory through the lens of watercolor by creating our very own color wheel. While talking about warm vs. cool and complimentary vs. monochrome colors, we will learn all the basics of painting with watercolor, including different blending and layering techniques and how to compose an image. We will go over the ins and outs of choosing brushes, the styles of watercolor paint (pan vs. liquid watercolors) and discuss types of watercolor paper. Once everyone is ready, we will practice painting a composed image of a rainbow! By the end of class, everyone will create a finished watercolor painting and have the confidence to make more!

About the instructor:

Emma Munger is an illustrator living in Joshua Tree, CA. Coming from a family of artists and teachers, Emma grew up with a love for sharing her interest in drawing with others. She graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA in Narrative Illustration in 2012. After school, Emma worked for seven years at a comic book store in San Francisco. She would gladly discuss the line weight of speedball dip pens and ink washes of different cartoonists before helping a customer find the latest Batman issue. Now in the remote high desert, she is so happy and passionate about finally having the time to share her love for sketching, pencils, fancy erasers, and all things drafting with others in depth.
